Democrat Congressman Don Beyer Met with Illegal Alien Gang Members While Touring Virginia ICE Facility

According to the Department of Homeland Security, Virginia Democrat Rep. Don Beyer met with several criminal illegal aliens on an ICE facility visit, including members of the 18th Street and MS-13 gangs, contradicting his claim that the majority of inmates are not criminals.

On August 8, Beyer visited ICE's Farmville Detention Center in Prince Edward County and later informed local media that 75 percent of the detainees "were not criminals." According to the Department of Homeland Security, over 66 percent had criminal records or pending charges.

According to DHS investigators, Beyer requested meetings with Ricardo Hernandez Mendez, an 18th Street Gang member convicted of parental kidnapping, armed burglary, forced abduction, and many assaults, as well as Carlos Amaya, an MS-13 member convicted of assault and gang membership.

The congressman also visited with Denis Hernandez Medina, who was convicted of drug possession and distribution, as well as Kevin Mark Cash, who was convicted of drunk and dangerous driving. DHS spokesman Tricia McLaughlin accused Beyer of "doing the bidding of dangerous criminal illegal aliens" and questioned when he would meet with their American victims.

The Department of Homeland Security has accused Virginia Democrat Rep. Don Beyer made a conscious decision to meet with dangerous criminal illegal aliens during a recent tour of ICE's Farmville Detention Center.

Beyer's August 8 visit, intended as a fact-finding tour, sparked controversy when he told local reporters that 75% of inmates "were not criminals" and slammed ICE for "indiscriminately picking up … everyone who's here without papers." Beyer went further: "We do want the bad guys out, I just hope that ICE is discriminating in the people they pick up and the people they deport."

DHS claims the congressman's calculations and priorities are both incorrect. According to officials, almost two-thirds of the inmates being detained at Farmville have criminal convictions or outstanding charges. Among them was Ricardo Hernandez Mendez, a verified member of the infamously vicious 18th Street Gang, who Beyer had sought to question. Mendez has convictions for parental kidnapping, assault and battery, burglary to commit armed larceny, armed petty larceny, abduction by force, intimidation or fraud, misdemeanor assault, and simple assault.

Beyer also interviewed Carlos Amaya, an MS-13 gang member convicted of assault and gang membership, Denis Hernandez Medina, who was convicted of drug possession and distribution, and Kevin Mark Cash, who was convicted of reckless driving and DUI.

"Congressman Beyer personally requested to meet with an 18th Street gang member, drug trafficker, and repeat DUI offender who are in our country illegally," DHS spokesman Tricia McLaughlin stated. "He continues to serve the interests of dangerous criminal illegal aliens, endangering his own constituency. When is Congressman Beyer going to meet with the American victims of these illegal aliens' violent crimes?

ICE's Farmville facility houses hundreds of inmates awaiting immigration procedures or deportation. DHS officials assert that the majority of its population consists of people with serious criminal backgrounds, but Democrats like Beyer continue to advocate for more selective enforcement.
