Secretary Mullin Conducts First Border Visit in Texas

United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin recently concluded his first official visit to the southern border in Brownsville, Texas, to assess operations and infrastructure.
During the tour, Secretary Mullin was joined by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Rodney Scott and U.S. Border Patrol Chief Rosario “Pete” Vasquez. The group inspected several critical sites, including the southern border wall, Camp Monument, and an autonomous surveillance tower. Additionally, the Secretary met with U.S. Coast Guard personnel and U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector to discuss current efforts.

A significant portion of the visit focused on the deployment of waterborne buoy barriers along the Rio Grande River, intended to deter illegal border crossings in dangerous waterways. Approximately 9.5 miles of the 17-mile project have been completed, with the remainder of the deployment planned for the future.

Highlighting the current state of border security, Secretary Mullin remarked: “Thanks to these heroes and the strong leadership of President Donald J. Trump, we have the MOST SECURE border in history, 15 straight months of ZERO illegal aliens released into our nation, and HISTORICALLY low illegal crossings.” The Secretary reaffirmed the department’s commitment to delivering on the mandate to keep the homeland safe.
