As the August 11 Democratic primary approaches in Wisconsin, gubernatorial candidate and current State Representative Francesca Hong is facing scrutiny over newly resurfaced social media posts. The Madison Democrat, a self-described democratic socialist, is navigating a string of controversies stemming from past online statements—ranging from calls to eliminate longstanding American traditions to anxiety-inducing visits to local fast-food chains.
"Cancel Thanksgiving": A 2020 Declaration
The latest post to draw public attention is a deleted message from November 2020, written during the height of COVID-19 restrictions. In it, Hong declared, "Cancel Thanksgiving. Should have done this in 1621."
She went on to describe the holiday as a celebration of colonialism and an "original superspreader event," notably using the activist-approved spelling "folx" in her post. This language drew criticism and mockery from political commentators, including Stephen Miller, who pointed out the redundancy of altering an already gender-neutral word.

A Pattern of Deleted Posts
This Thanksgiving revelation follows closely on the heels of another recent controversy regarding a 2021 post where Hong demanded to "Abolish the Senate"
While her campaign initially denied she held such a stance, they eventually walked back the denial after the post was uncovered, stating that she did not recall writing it and no longer supported eliminating the chamber.
Adding to the social media spotlight is an older 2019 post detailing a visit to a Culver’s in Black River Falls. Hong claimed the presence of "to [sic] many old white people" nearly triggered an anxiety attack, prompting her to cut her meal short. This incident has drawn mockery from conservative figures like former Trump White House official Alex Pfeiffer and Free Beacon reporter Chuck Ross.
