More than 150,000 ICE Applicants Step Up to Defend the Homeland

As Trump ramps up deportations, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Tuesday that over 150,000 Americans have applied to join ICE, with 18,000 provisional job offers already made.
Candidates want to assist ICE in identifying "murderers, pedophiles, rapists, terrorists, and gang members" who are illegally in the United States, according to Noem, who claimed the large number of applications shows a reinvigorated feeling of responsibility. Despite a rise of anti-ICE rallies last summer, many of which descended into violence as activists retaliated against Trump's increase in migrant arrests and deportations, the hiring boom occurred.
Six-figure wages, signing bonuses of up to $50,000, student loan forgiveness and repayment plans, increased retirement benefits, and "administratively uncontrollable overtime" for Enforcement Removal Operations officers are just a few of the generous incentives that ICE is providing to entice talent.
President Trump's efforts to prevent illegal immigration are generating unprecedented demand from Americans who want to join Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Tuesday that ICE has already made more than 18,000 preliminary offers and received more than 150,000 employment applications.
According to a statement released by Noem, "Americans are serving their country and helping to remove murderers, pedophiles, rapists, terrorists, and gang members from our country." In an attempt to restore law and order, she presented the spike in applications as a patriotic reaction.
Following months of disruptive, often violent, anti-ICE protests across the nation, there is a newfound sense of exhilaration. In places including New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, activists and police clashed over Trump's alleged targeting of immigrant populations. However, it appears that the demonstrations have simply made those who want to serve more determined.
One of the main forces behind the recruitment effort has been incentives. With six-figure salaries, signing bonuses of $50,000, and alluring benefit packages that include improved retirement security and student loan forgiveness, ICE is attracting top talent. The agency is concentrating especially on seasoned law enforcement personnel who departed during the Biden administration, when enforcement efforts were reduced and morale was low.
DHS issued an urgent call to bring these former officers back in July, which they called "Operation Return to Mission." In order to attract a wider range of candidates, the organization has now removed its age restrictions, which were previously set at 37 to 40 years old, depending on the position.
ICE has begun sweeping operations in cities nationwide as part of Trump's enforcement agenda. To apprehend criminal illegal aliens who claimed sanctuary under Illinois Governor JB Pritzker's sanctuary policies, DHS unveiled "Operation Midway Blitz" in Chicago last week. DHS described the operation as a direct challenge to sanctuary states run by Democrats, saying, "They knew Pritzker and his policies would protect them and allow them to roam freely on American streets."
Under Trump, the presence of ICE has grown from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. The agency is also getting ready for a larger workforce than it has ever had before, with 150,000 applications on file and Americans ready to join the battle.
