War Secretary Pete Hegseth Move to End Woke-Era DEI Mandates in the Military

By introducing new standards that terminate DEI regulations, reinstate "male-level" fitness benchmarks, and refocus the military on one mission—warfighting and winning— War Secretary Pete Hegseth said Tuesday that the Pentagon's "woke era" is over.

Hegseth termed it “a moment of mounting urgency” for America’s military as he spoke to a rare gathering of top generals and admirals at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia ahead of President Donald Trump’s remarks.

Eight months after taking over as head of the renamed Department of War, Hegseth announced extensive reforms aimed at ridding the organization of gender ideology, DEI offices, and "toxic political distractions." "Identity months, DEI offices, and guys in dresses are over," he declared. "We have moved on from that shit."

He blasted the presence of "fat generals and admirals in the halls of the Pentagon" and called for a return to stringent, gender-neutral physical fitness and grooming requirements. All combat personnel would be held to the highest standards at the male level, according to Hegseth, who advised those who are unable to reach them to "find a new profession."

In a heated 45-minute speech at Marine Corps Base Quantico on Tuesday, War Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the end of the Pentagon's social engineering experiment and a return to the core principles of military operations: victory, discipline, and preparedness. Hegseth said the Trump administration's reforms represent "a moment of mounting urgency" for a force weakened by decreased standards and distracted by politics while addressing a rare gathering of top military leaders.

Threats increase and enemies assemble. He declared, "There is no time for games." "We need to be ready." Hegseth maintained that years of misguided attention to DEI, climate change, and gender ideology have damaged military effectiveness, recruiting, and trust. He claimed that politicians who were careless and stupid had pushed the military to concentrate on the wrong issues. "We are making room for leaders to be leaders by removing the clutter and distractions."

Eight months into what he refers to as a "warrior restoration," the former Army colonel commended President Trump for refocusing the Pentagon's mission on combat preparedness. He remarked, "This administration has done a great deal from day one to remove the toxic ideological garbage that had infected our department, including social justice and politically correctness." "Identity months, DEI offices, and men in gowns are over. No more gender fantasies, division, diversion, or worship of climate change.”

Hegseth declared that commanders would henceforth be subject to a "Golden Rule test": "Would you want your own child serving in that unit?" he asked. "Would you want him to serve in a unit where standards were lowered to allow certain types to get in, or with fat or unfit troops?" "The answer is not just 'no,' it's 'hell no,'" he said frankly in response to his own query.

The War Secretary proposed extensive physical changes, including a new field test that prioritized strength and stamina and restored combat posts to male-level requirements. He He made it clear that the era of casual workout routines was over when he stated, "We're not talking hot yoga and stretching." "It's time for a new job—or a new career—if you don't want to shave and look professional, can't pass a physical test, or don't meet the male-level physical requirements for combat positions."

Senior officers who allowed what he described as a "risk-averse culture," in which executives "execute not to lose instead of to win," were the targets of his harshest criticism. Hegseth pledged to support leaders who are prepared to take chances in order to reestablish a fighting culture, even if doing so meant losing staff members who oppose the shift. "Policy is personnel," he declared. "We can advance the right policies sooner if we have the right people in place."

It served as both a call to action and a warning: change or die. Hegseth addressed the audience, saying, "You should do the right thing and resign if the things I'm saying today are making your heart sink."

Hegseth's speech was a turning point in the Trump administration's cultural transformation of the military, a clear departure from the age of social experimentation and an indication that America's military is refocusing on its primary mission: to win and prepare for war.
