On Thursday, Turning Point USA (TPUSA) paid tribute to its late founder, Charlie Kirk, describing him as "America's greatest martyr" and lauding his firm commitment to freedom of speech and religion.

Kirk is its "guiding light," according to a statement from Turning Point USA, which emphasized his commitment to "argument and good-faith debate" as a way to seek the truth. The TPUSA noted that despite receiving thousands of threats during his lifetime, Kirk prioritized "reaching as many young Americans as possible over his own personal safety."

In addition to expressing their condolences to Kirk's wife, Erika, and their two kids, the group urged fans to "pray for the Kirks after the incomprehensible loss they have suffered" and described Kirk as "the ideal husband and the perfect father."

At the age of 18, Kirk started Turning Point USA in his parents' garage and saw it blossom into a powerful grassroots organization. The New York Times reports that donations were a major factor in the organization's revenue growth, which increased from $4.3 million in 2016 to $92.4 million in 2023.

Turning Point USA honored its co-founder Charlie Kirk on Thursday, calling him “America’s greatest martyr” after his murder at Utah Valley University the previous day. At the beginning of his American Comeback Tour, the 31-year-old conservative leader was speaking to a crowd of roughly 3,000 people when a sniper opened fire, killing him.

Turning Point USA noted in its statement that Kirk exemplified a lifetime dedication to polite conversation, emphasizing that "Charlie believed more than anyone in the power of argument and good-faith debate to find the truth and guide people towards, if not agreement, then at least mutual understanding."

Kirk was no stranger to risk, the panel observed. According to the statement, "He received thousands [of threats] throughout his life." However, he consistently put the needs of as many young Americans as possible ahead of his security.

TP USA also emphasized Kirk's strong Christian beliefs, saying that he was "professing the Gospel" in his last moments. According to the memorial, "He will always be remembered as the courageous young man who motivated tens of millions of Americans to better themselves and take action to improve America."

From a teenage activist who founded Turning Point in his parents' garage to a well-known figure in conservative politics, Kirk's career path was remarkable. He amassed millions of followers and billions of views on social media. His grassroots campaign grew to become one of the biggest conservative groups in the nation, encompassing Turning Point USA and Turning Point Action today.

"Charlie will be missed by all of us," the statement concluded with a contemplation on his legacy. We will always remember him.
