New York AG Letitia James, Career Trump Witch Hunter, Indicted on Federal Bank Fraud Charge in Virginia

In a surprising reversal, New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat who spent her career attacking Donald Trump, was indicted Thursday on a federal bank fraud allegation in Virginia. On Thursday, a grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James, who has been the subject of a federal investigation into potential bank and mortgage fraud. Lindsey Halligan, acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, announced the federal charge against New York Attorney General Letitia James to the public Thursday evening.

The investigation, which was started earlier this year by the Department of Justice, focuses on whether James made false statements about her primary address on loan paperwork and on errors related to property records for her Brooklyn and Virginia residences.

Federal Housing Finance Director Bill Pulte accused James of providing false information, including one paper that purportedly named her father as her spouse, which prompted the start of the probe. According to prosecutors, the indictment focuses on a single-family home in Norfolk, Virginia, that James co-purchased for about $137,000 in August 2020. The majority of the purchase was funded by a $109,600 loan that forbade it from being used as a rental investment property.

Following a grand jury hearing in the Eastern District of Virginia on Thursday, New York Attorney General Letitia James, who gained notoriety for her well-publicized civil battle against President Donald Trump and the Trump Organization, was charged with bank fraud. The charge, which is the result of an ongoing Justice Department investigation into possible mortgage fraud linked to a number of James's homes, was confirmed by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Federal Housing Finance Director Bill Pulte initially raised the accusations in a letter, alleging that James had made "false or misleading statements" on property files. The letter claims that James's multifamily property in Brooklyn was classified as having five units instead of four in building records, and that one of her mortgage applications referred to her Virginia home as her "primary residence." James was purportedly listed as her father's husband in another mortgage form

To obtain better mortgage conditions, federal authorities were examining whether James had falsely represented one of her investment houses as a primary or secondary residence. Under federal banking laws, such a misstatement can be considered mortgage fraud.

President Trump appointed U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan to handle the case after removing her predecessor Erik Siebert. According to reports, Siebert had previously stated that he was reluctant to file charges against Trump's longstanding detractors James and former FBI Director James Comey.

According to a press release by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, if convicted, Letitia James faces penalties including up to 30 years in prison per count, up to a $1 million fine on each count, and forfeiture. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Last month, Trump seemed to allude to the inquiry on Truth Social when he wrote, "Nothing is being done." How about Letitia, Adam "Shifty" Schiff, and Comey? Delaying is harming our credibility and reputation; thus, we can't do it any longer. They impeached me twice and indicted me (5 times!) OVER NOTHING. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!
