The White House Blasts Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s “ICE-Free Zones” for Its Protection of Violent Criminal Illegal Aliens

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson's executive order prohibiting federal immigration officials from conducting enforcement activities on city property was sharply criticized by the White House in a statement released Monday. The White House said that Johnson's new "ICE-Free Zones" policy prioritizes illegal aliens over Chicago families, calling it a "disgusting betrayal of every law-abiding citizen." The statement used a list of foreign nationals detained by ICE in Chicago recently, including those convicted of gang violence, sexual assault, murder, child rape, and armed carjacking, to emphasize its point. These included Austrian national Stefan Cseve, who was accused of murder and aggravated sexual abuse; Mexican national Refugio Ramirez-Larios, who was found guilty of crimes involving weapons and homicide; and Venezuelan national Blanca Sanchez-Sanchez, who was identified as a Tren de Aragua gang member.
The White House declared, "This sick policy coddles criminal illegal alien killers, rapists, and gangbangers who prey on innocent Americans."
Earlier in the day, Johnson issued an executive order prohibiting federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials from conducting immigration enforcement activities on Chicago city property, including parking lots, vacant lots, and public buildings. According to the mayor, the order was required to uphold "community trust" and comply with Chicago's alleged "Welcoming City Ordinance."

The administration noted that Johnson's policy would protect criminals like them from justice, citing multiple recent ICE arrests in Chicago of foreign nationals found guilty of severe crimes, such as domestic abuse, armed robbery, and sexual assault.
