Jimmy Kimmel’s Live Show Gets the Boot after Controversial Charlie Kirk Comments

In response to Jimmy Kimmel's comments on the suspect in Charlie Kirk's murder, Nexstar has said that it will remove the show from its ABC stations "for the foreseeable future."
According to the corporation, starting with tonight's broadcast, Nexstar's owned and partner television stations connected to the ABC Television Network will take the place of Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the foreseeable future. Nexstar will substitute other programming for the show in its markets with ABC and vehemently disagrees with Mr. Kimmel's recent remarks regarding Charlie Kirk's murder.
"We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and using everything they can to score political points from it," Kimmel stated on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday.
ABC announced Wednesday night that it was discontinuing the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" program "indefinitely" due to the host's contentious remarks regarding the conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed. According to an ABC representative, "'Jimmy Kimmel Live' will be preempted indefinitely.
In an appearance on Benny Johnson's podcast just hours prior to the Nexstar and ABC announcements, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr denounced Kimmel's comment as "some of the sickest conduct possible." Additionally, he threatened the agency with action. "There are some ways that I need to exercise caution because there are avenues here for the FCC, and I could be called entirely to become a judge on some of these claims that come up," Carr stated.
"We do not believe that Mr. Kimmel's remarks regarding Mr. Kirk's passing represent the range of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located, and they are offensive and insensitive at a crucial juncture in our national political discourse," stated Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar's broadcasting division.
Alford stated, "We have made the difficult decision to preempt his show in an effort to let cooler heads prevail as we move toward the resumption of respectful, constructive dialogue. It is simply not in the public interest at this time to continue to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve."
