Chief Warrant Officer and Blackhawk Pilot Facing Discharge for Refusing mRNA Shot After President Trump’s Reinstatement Order

After more than 21 years of distinguished service, Chief Warrant Officer Brandon Budge has flown missions in Afghanistan, the Middle East, and other countries as a Blackhawk pilot. He is now being kicked out of the Army, though, not because he did anything wrong, but because he refused to comply with a genetic injection mandate that has subsequently been declared illegal.

The Executive Order signed by President Donald Trump on January 27 calls for the reinstatement of those military personnel who were released due to their refusal to comply with the 2021 COVID-19 mRNA shot order. The order guarantees complete reinstatement, including benefits restoration and back pay. Within months, on May 7, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth sent a formal note to Department of Defense leadership declaring the directive "unlawful as implemented."

But justice hasn't arrived for Budge and many others.

Budge talked about how he was under constant pressure to get the mRNA injection in a Focal Points interview, even though he had strong doubts about the shot's safety and had developed natural immunity after recovering from COVID. He faced isolation, a demotion, and the danger of career ruin when he refused.

Despite his wife's high-risk pregnancy and the physicians' warnings of an early delivery, Budge's plea to stay in the United States was turned down. “Even if your wife is on her deathbed, you won’t be coming home” was his explicit directive—provided he followed the mRNA shot order.

Budge acted alone because he was desperate to be able to see his wife in case of an emergency. To meet the requirement and safeguard his family, he got an FDA-labeled off-post version of the shot. Still, his command struck back. His command grounded him from flight duty for 18 months and rescinded his promotion to CW-4, resulting in a monthly cost of around $1,000. In the end, an official flying evaluation board found him not guilty, but the harm had already been done.

In an attempt to right the wrong, he and his spouse have now spent well over forty thousand dollars on legal bills. He recently lost his appeal for a promotion and back pay. If nothing changes, they will release him by September 1st.

The illegal requirement has far-reaching consequences, including a sharp increase in service member suicides, the ruin of careers, and the dissolution of families. Police officers, firefighters, nurses, and numerous others who disobeyed experimental orders that have since been revealed to have caused extensive injury suffered the same fate across the nation.

Budge is calling for the establishment of a separate body that would be solely responsible for examining and undoing the harm the mandate has caused, apart from the cumbersome and prejudiced procedures of the existing military bureaucracy.
