Bill and Hillary Clinton Subpoenaed Over Epstein Ties
By The Blog Source
In a broader investigation of Jeffrey Epstein, House Republicans have subpoenaed Bill and Hillary Clinton as well as senior former FBI and DOJ officials. The action was taken in response to growing public pressure for transparency and fresh criticism of how Epstein's case was handled.
The subpoenas for Bill and Hillary Clinton's testimony are set for October 14 and October 9, respectively. James Comey, Robert Mueller, Merrick Garland, Bill Barr, Jeff Sessions, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, and Alberto Gonzales are among the other officials who have been subpoenaed. The DOJ's enforcement of sex trafficking laws and its investigation of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell require congressional oversight, said Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.).
The House Oversight Committee has begun its most vigorous attempt to cut through what many detractors see to be a barrier of protection enclosing Jeffrey Epstein's vast network of social and political ties. The involvement of Bill and Hillary Clinton has drawn attention to their political and personal connections to Epstein, and the list of subpoenaed witnesses reads like a who's who of Washington's governing class over the previous 30 years.
Congress must "conduct oversight of the federal government's enforcement of sex trafficking laws generally and specifically its handling of the investigation and prosecution of Mr. Epstein and Ms. Maxwell," according to letters sent to all witnesses by Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.). Only a few weeks have passed since Maxwell was allegedly interviewed by DOJ officials while incarcerated, a move that some legal experts believe was made in an attempt to evade congressional investigation.
The public has long been interested in the Clinton family's relationship with Epstein. A strange oil painting of Bill Clinton in a blue dress and red heels was earlier verified by a law enforcement report to be hanging at Epstein's Manhattan apartment. Additionally, a 1993 picture of Bill Clinton with Epstein and Maxwell has stoked more conjecture regarding their relationship.
Additionally, the subpoenas' timing points to a larger reckoning with past administrations. James Comey will testify on October 7 after Robert Mueller on September 2. Obama-era AGs Loretta Lynch and Eric Holder are set for September 9 and September 30, respectively, while Joe Biden's attorney general, Merrick Garland, is scheduled on October 2. Attorneys Bill Barr and Jeff Sessions, both from the Trump administration, will testify on August 18 and later, respectively.
Crucially, Alberto Gonzales, the AG under former President George W. Bush is also on the list, suggesting that Republicans are looking broadly to investigate systemic shortcomings in several administrations, not just Democratic ones.
A growing rift between House Republicans who are desperate to obtain answers and the federal agencies and prominent people they believe have obstructed justice is indicated by this aggressive batch of subpoenas. These well-known testimonies could decide whether the wealthy and powerful continue to be protected or whether the American people finally receive transparency, especially in light of Ghislaine Maxwell's 20-year sentence and growing public pressure.
Representatives for the Clintons and the Department of Justice have yet to formally respond to the subpoenas as of this writing.
