President Trump Tells Ungrateful Anti-American Somali Refugees: “Go Back and Fix Your Own Country”

During a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, President Trump criticized the Somali immigrant community in Minnesota, saying that instead of "complaining" about the United States, individuals who "come from hell" should go back home and develop their own nation. His comments were in stark contrast to years of refugee programs supported by Democrats, which attracted about 100,000 Somali migrants to the state in spite of ongoing worries about fraud, crime, and cultural assimilation.

Trump declared, "We don't want them in our country. They come from hell, and they complain and do nothing but b****."  Trump added, "Go back and fix your own country. Their country is no good for a reason," he said, describing Somalia as a country that "stinks" and has been dysfunctional for decades.

Trump's remarks came while Minnesota is still dealing with the consequences of large-scale fraud schemes connected to community networks and nonprofit organizations run by Somalis. More than $1 billion in theft and embezzlement from programs meant to assist vulnerable families, feed the hungry, support homebuyers, assist autistic children, and offer pandemic relief has been discovered by federal investigators. Even the New York Times agreed that Somali immigrants were influenced by a political culture where stealing from a corrupt government was widespread due to the extent of corruption.

Trump reaffirmed, "I don't want them in our country," before focusing on Rep. Ilhan Omar and her political friends, branding them "garbage." "These folks don't have jobs. "Let's go, come on, let's make this place great" is not how these folks think. These individuals only engage in complaining.

A challenging cultural contradiction between an immensely individualistic American civilization and a clannish, Islamic, conflict-driven Somali culture fashioned by decades of civil war is highlighted in the president's comments, as many Minnesotans have long noted. Public assistance programs, far too often, have become targets rather than stepping stones, making assimilation difficult.

Under Trump, DHS officials have stepped up their arrests and investigations into the state's widespread migration fraud, revealing schemes that flourished while Democratic leaders remained silent. For years, state officials sent warnings, but lawmakers anxious to avoid controversy hid politically sensitive data.

If Democrats rush to protect Somali activists and community leaders who disregarded warning signs, they risk losing the swing votes they will need in the 2026 election cycle. Instead of confronting the widespread criminal behavior connected to their networks, Somali political activists are trying to divert public wrath by portraying themselves as victims.
