NC Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson files $50 million lawsuit against CNN
Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson of North Carolina has sued CNN for $50 million in defamation, alleging that the network's article accusing Robinson of posting explicit content on a pornographic website was careless and defamatory. Robinson, who is a candidate for governor, says the report was based on stolen data and refutes the accusations.
The complaint was filed in Wake County Superior Court on Tuesday by Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson. He has denied writing the obscene notes and accused CNN of reporting them carelessly.
The CNN story, which was released on September 19th, said that Robinson made explicit racial and sexual remarks and sought to connect his personal information to a decade-old account on a bulletin board for a pornographic website.
At a news conference in Raleigh, Robinson described the report as a “high-tech lynching” that was directed at his political ambitions. According to the lawsuit, CNN ignored proof of earlier computer breaches that compromised his personal data.
