How Many More Lamestream Media Networks Can We Expect to Pay Up?
According to court filings on Saturday, ABC News and anchor George Stephanopoulos reached a settlement in a defamation lawsuit filed by President-elect Trump that included a public apology and $15 million to support Trump's future presidential library. Following the $15 settlement his network reached with President Donald Trump, ABC News host George Stephanopoulos deactivated his X account.
ABC News will donate $15 million to a "Presidential foundation and museum to be established by or for Plaintiff, as Presidents of the United States of America have established in the past," as per the settlement. The network will also cover $1 million for Trump's legal bills, according to Fox News.
The complaint arose from Stephanopoulos' repeated assertions in a heated interview in March 2024 that Trump was "liable for rape" in the civil case of E. Jean Carroll. In reality, the jury determined Trump was liable for "sexual abuse," a distinction under New York law.
In addition, Trump's lawyers contended that "many news and press outlets have continued to reference Stephanopoulos by incorrectly proclaiming that he was found guilty for rape."
The court victory follows a run of decisions that have favored Trump. Citing procedural irregularities and the illegal appointment of Special Counsel Jack Smith, federal judges recently dismissed cases against him pertaining to the 2020 election and secret documents. Under the leadership of senior adviser Boris Epshteyn, Trump's legal team has hailed these developments as proof of prosecution overreach.
