Republicans claim that the Signal network is a component of a larger activist infrastructure that aims to thwart government investigations into widespread welfare fraud and immigration enforcement. GOP officials claim that activists watch agents, incite conflicts and incidents, and then use coordinated media pressure to place the blame on federal authorities using encrypted communications.

The Democratic leadership in Minnesota is currently coming under increasing pressure. Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Governor Tim Walz have all frequently criticized federal immigration enforcement, accusing them of inciting unrest by comparing ICE agents to Nazis or the Gestapo. Flanagan may soon hear from federal investigators, according to Mizelle, who stated, "If you're involved in a conspiracy interfering with ICE operations and someone dies as part of that conspiracy, all participants can be charged."

Representative Brandon Gill described the pattern as calculated. Gill cited sanctuary policies that hinder local collaboration with Immigration and Customs Enforcement as evidence that "Democrats put federal officers in impossible situations and then weaponize the chaos for political gain." According to Patel, the FBI is now actively tracking the Signal trail wherever it goes. Patel stressed that arrests, not warnings, would be the next course of action if such conversations went beyond activism into obstruction or endangered federal officers.
