President Donald Trump slammed Joe Biden's botched pullout from Afghanistan during a speech Thursday at Qatar's Al Udeid Air Base and promised significant pay increases for US service members. Trump labeled Biden's departure from Afghanistan a disgrace, citing the deaths of 13 American servicemen during the Kabul evacuation.
He promised major pay raises for all military personnel, stating that his 2026 budget will contain "across-the-board" increases. The visit came after Trump signed several bilateral agreements with Qatar, including acquisitions of Boeing planes and MQ-9 drones.
On Thursday, President Donald Trump addressed US forces stationed in Qatar, praising America's military, touting his proposed pay boost, and criticizing former President Joe Biden's foreign policies, particularly the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.
"You are without a doubt the greatest fighting force in the history of the world," Trump addressed the soldiers at Al Udeid Air Base. "My 2026 budget includes across-the-board—substantial—pay raises for each and every one of you," he stated. He added, "Maybe you don't want to take it, but it's for the good of the country."
Trump went on to emphasize America's military dominance, adding, "We have the most powerful military in the world. It is not even close. Nobody has the planes, missiles, or other stuff that we do." He also stated that under his leadership, the US military would soon be "bigger, better, stronger, and more powerful than ever."
Turning his attention to former President Biden, Trump slammed the management of the 2021 Afghanistan departure, calling it one of the saddest chapters in American military history. "Thirteen brave American heroes lost their lives during that evacuation," added the governor. "It never should have happened."
The message on Thursday comes a day after Trump met with Qatar's Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in Doha. The two leaders agreed to a number of defense and economic accords, including the purchase of Boeing aircraft and a letter of intent to acquire MQ-9 Reaper drones manufactured in the United States.
Al Udeid, which houses thousands of American personnel, is a crucial location for US Central Command operations. Trump's visit underscored the region's strategic importance as well as his administration's continuous efforts to enhance US influence and military readiness around the world.
