Oregon Sues to Block Deployment of National Guard  Amidst Mounting Antifa-Linked Violence

To stop President Donald Trump from deploying the National Guard to Portland, where Antifa-related violence has continued for months, Oregon officials filed a lawsuit on Sunday. The White House stated that the action is necessary to safeguard federal property following "months of violent riots," but Governor Tina Kotek referred to it as "illegal."

A federal court order prohibiting the Trump administration from sending National Guard troops is sought in the complaint, which was brought by the state of Oregon and the city of Portland.

Calling Trump's order "unnecessary" and "illegal," Democrat Governor Tina Kotek claimed to have warned the president directly that "there is no insurrection or threat to public safety" that justifies federal military participation. Trump is exercising his right to defend government property and personnel "after months of violent riots where officers have been assaulted and doxxed by left-wing rioters," according to White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson.

In an effort to prevent the National Guard from deploying troops to stop the continuous violence associated with Antifa, the state of Oregon and the city of Portland are suing President Donald Trump's administration. The lawsuit, filed in a federal court in Portland, asks a judge to prevent Trump from using federal troops in the city, according to NBC News.

Antifa militants have repeatedly attacked an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland at night, making it one of the country's most frequent hotspots for left-wing turmoil. However, local authorities are adamant that everything is under control. Governor Tina Kotek stated in a statement on Sunday that there is no insurrection or threat to public safety in Portland or any other city in our state that necessitates military intervention, following her meeting with the president yesterday.

Joining Kotek in denouncing the deployment, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) shared daytime video of the ICE facility, which looked serene at the time, and urged Trump to "stay the hell out of our city." But according to reports, most of the attacks take place at night when Antifa members congregate to damage property and fight with police.

According to the White House, the deployment is warranted. After months of violent riots in which left-wing rioters have attacked and doxxed officers in Portland, President Trump is using his lawful authority to direct the National Guard to protect federal assets and personnel."

Trump's action comes after he formally designated Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization earlier this month by issuing an executive order. The directive followed the assassination of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, where police claimed that Antifa slogans were inscribed on bullet shells discovered at the site. Tyler Robinson, 22, is the culprit who is currently facing capital charges after allegedly confessing to the crime.

The president's ability to deploy the National Guard to thwart Antifa-related violence against ICE agents in Oregon will now be determined by the court.
