Former Adviser Bolton Home Raided by FBI as Part of National Security Probe

As part of a national security probe, FBI agents raided the Maryland home of John Bolton, who used to be Trump's national security advisor, early on Friday. FBI Director Kash Patel authorized the investigation, which is said to be focused on secret papers that were connected to Bolton's time in the Trump administration.

Sources said that federal officials came to Bolton's home in Bethesda about 7 a.m. on Friday as part of a long-running investigation. Patel, who is now the director of the FBI under President Trump, then tweeted, "NO ONE is above the law... @FBI agents on mission."

At 7:32 a.m., when FBI investigators were in Bolton's house, he posted a very critical message on his X account criticizing Trump's Ukraine policy. It's still not clear whether the post was planned ahead of time.

People have said that Bolton has mishandled sensitive material in the past. Trump's Justice Department looked into whether his book, The Room Where It Happened, has secrets that may hurt national security in 2020. Trump alleged that Bolton breached a nondisclosure agreement and tried to stop it from being published.

The New York Post was the first to report on the raid. It is a big step forward in an investigation into secret information that had been put on hold under the Biden administration. The Post was informed by a high-ranking U.S. official that the previous cutoff was "for political reasons."

According to the Post, federal officials went to Bolton's house on Friday morning as part of a fresh effort led by Patel. Patel has openly promised to get rid of corruption in government institutions. Just a day earlier, he accused former FBI Director James Comey of leaking confidential information and lying to Congress in 2016.

Bolton's morning tweet, which criticized Trump's handling of Russia's conflict in Ukraine, got a lot of attention because of when it was posted. Bolton said in the article that "Russia has not changed its goal: drag Ukraine into a new Russian Empire." He also said that Trump was merely trying to speak to Russia to get a "Nobel Peace Prize."

Since leaving the Trump administration, the former advisor has been a constant critic of his previous boss, often appearing on cable news shows to criticize Trump's foreign policies. His public dispute with the president started following the argument over his 2020 book, which the Trump administration alleged gave out important information about national security.

Bolton is still in the middle of a dispute regarding how he handled confidential information, which has been going on since he broke up with Trump. There are no charges yet, but Patel's action signals that federal investigators are looking into cases that the previous administration left open.
