DHS Reports: Shots Fired at Border Patrol Agents in Chicago

By The Blog Source

Reports indicate that U.S. Border Patrol officers encountered gunfire during their immigration enforcement activities in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, an unidentified individual in a black Jeep fired shots at agents and fled as they were carrying out immigration enforcement operations close to 26th Street and Kedzie Avenue. DHS also claims that a group of individuals threw bricks and a paint can at the Border Patrol car.

The Chicago Police Department evacuated the area after requesting assistance. Reports of gunfire against federal officials prompted CPD to dispatch its officers to the scene. Officers who secured the area have not reported any shooting incidents.

However, a 20-year-old woman's GMC pickup truck unintentionally struck one police officer. According to CPD, the woman received two citations, and the officer was brought to a nearby hospital in excellent condition after suffering minor injuries.

There was no sign of the man who allegedly opened fire on the agents or the Jeep he was operating on the day of the incident. However, local residents are accusing federal agents of being hostile. After learning that they attempted to arrest a man in a car, Ald. Byron Sigcho-Lopez (25th Ward) claimed he requested identification and warrants from the agents.

Greg Bovino, the Border Patrol chief, said they have a suspect in custody for the gunfire aimed at agents in Chicago last weekend. He is an illegal alien Mexican criminal previously convicted of a felony with a handgun.

"When we got here, these masked people were dragging an 11-year-old girl, and the neighbors are trying to surround them to make sure they didn't take her," he added.

Witnesses told Sigcho-Lopez that agents had broken a car window. "Observe the damage they have caused to our community. Sadness has been present since 10 a.m. "This is ridiculous," he declared. Regarding the incident involving an 11-year-old child, Nexstar's WGN-TV has contacted DHS and is awaiting a response.

After federal agents left the area, demonstrators focused on the lone CPD officer in charge of crowd management, shouting "shame" at them.

This incident is not unique; rather, it is part of a dangerous and expanding pattern of obstruction and violence. OOver the past two months, we have observed an increase in attacks and obstruction directed at federal law officers during their operations. TThese encounters remind us of the daily threats faced by our officers. TThis includes the increasing hostility toward law enforcement. DHS declared, "The violence must stop."
