America is Winning Again! CPI Report Shows President Trump’s Economy is Beating Inflation

Using the most recent Consumer Price Index as evidence that President Trump's economic leadership is bringing about a "New Golden Age" of declining prices, growing earnings, and widespread wealth, the White House announced on Wednesday that "America is beating inflation."

The White House said that overall inflation was "lighter than expected" in the May CPI report. Officials stressed that every month since Trump took office, inflation has fallen short of economists' projections. When food and energy are excluded, core inflation remained stable at its lowest level since March 2021. According to the White House, core inflation has only averaged 2.0% each year under Trump, which is similar to the rates that were last observed during his first term.

Additionally, the administration emphasized pay increases, especially for nonsupervisory and industrial workers. In May, those workers' real salaries surged at the quickest rate in almost a year, and they have now increased each month since Trump took office again.

"America is beating inflation" and ushering in a "new Golden Age with lower costs, higher pay, and economic opportunity for all," the White House said Wednesday, framing the most recent inflation report as yet another significant economic victory under President Trump.

The administration pointed to the May Consumer Price Index (CPI) and reported that inflation was "lighter than expected" once more, maintaining a tendency of exceeding projections. "Inflation has consistently fallen short of economists' forecasts since President Trump took office," the White House stated.

Excluding the volatile food and energy categories, core inflation is still at its lowest point in more than three years. The White House stated that core inflation is currently only averaging 2.0% per year, which is the same steady pace observed throughout Trump's first term, when the economy was characterized by robust growth and low prices.

Additionally, the government highlighted salary increases. In May, real salaries for nonsupervisory and manufacturing workers experienced their biggest monthly increase in almost a year, which is sometimes seen as a major sign of middle-class resilience. According to the White House, these salaries have increased each month since Trump assumed office and are up almost 2% annually.

"After accounting for inflation, the average private sector worker is expected to see an increase in real earnings of about $1,200," the statement said.

The White House attributed a large portion of the alleviation to reduced costs for commonplace items and services. It stated that while gas prices decreased 2.6% in May and are currently down 12% for the year, energy prices fell 1.0% over the last month and 3.5% over the previous year. Additionally, prices decreased for several consumer goods, such as beef, poultry, eggs, travel, clothing, and both new and used cars.

The White House cited financial networks and mainstream media opinion as support for its position. CNN's Matt Egan declared, "We got ANOTHER month of positive inflation news." While Mike Santoli of CNBC observed, "There's no way to look at these numbers and say they're not welcome news." Others agreed, such as CNBC's Rick Santelli, who observed, "Inflation certainly looks like it is cooling," and Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo, who described the figures as "much better than expected."

The Trump administration is arguing that its policies are working—and doing so on conditions that Democrats have long promised but have not fulfilled—as wages are increasing, prices are cooling, and economic projections are exceeding expectations.
