PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP TO SIGN EXECUTIVE ORDER ON RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

Donald Trump, the president of the United States, is expected to sign an executive order on religious liberty on Thursday. According to senior administration officials, this new order is specially designed to “protect and vigorously promote religious liberty” and to “alleviate the burden” of laws that restrict religious leaders from speaking out on political matters. Thursday’s signing of the executive order coincides with the National Day of Prayer.
Vice President Mike Pence would be a happy man if President Donald Trump puts pen to paper on the executive order which is sure to guarantee religious freedom. Vice President Pence has always clamored for a religious liberty executive order to be signed. Mike Pence has long been pushing for religious liberty policies and he has received massive praises from conservative and evangelical leaders. It would be recalled that the former Governor of Indiana incurred the wrath of civil liberties group and businesses when he signed a Religious Freedom Restoration Act in 2015. Following a wave of continuous criticism, he backpedaled and signed into law, an amendment of the bill.
Although, it is yet to be seen what President Donald Trump aims to accomplish with this executive order, several civil liberties groups who had things go their way under President Barack Obama are already preparing for a battle. The American Civil Liberties Union and the Human Rights Campaign have confirmed that they would file legal challenges against the executive order
