The DOJ to Investigate Alleged Threats Made Against School Board Members

Without giving any cases of its allegations, the Department of Justice seems to be intent on using the FBI to look into an alleged spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence against school board members across the country surrounding the issues of critical race theory, coronavirus policy, and more. What’s going on here? Is it really school board members being harassed and intimidated or is it the concerned parents who voice their grievances about what their children are being taught in schools?

According to the Oct. 4 DOJ Office of Public Affairs press release, “Citing an increase in harassment, intimidation and threats of violence against school board members, teachers and workers in our nation’s public schools, today Attorney General Merrick B. Garland directed the FBI and U.S. Attorneys’ Offices to meet in the next 30 days with federal, state, Tribal, territorial and local law enforcement leaders to discuss strategies for addressing this disturbing trend.

Interestingly, the DOJ’s decision follows the Sept. 29 letter which included the endorsement of 90,000 elected school board officials around the U.S. who alleged that its members were “facing unprecedented threats in the politically charged climate surrounding debates over COVID-19 and systemic racism.” The letter cited 20 examples of alleged violence, harassment and intimidation while equating it to “a form of domestic terrorism and hate crimes," according to an Axios summary article of the letter. Yet, the cited examples appeared to be no more than heated debates over the school board’s attempt to push critical race theory in its schools.

Are we witnessing a “declaration of war” against parents who are taking a stand to protect their children against “woke” policies
