Stephen Breyer Liberal US Supreme Court Justice to Retire after 27 Years
According to a recent report, amidst a 6-3 conservative majority, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer will retire at the end of the current term giving Joe Biden an opportunity to replace the liberal justice. Breyer, the oldest member of the court at 83, was nominated by former President Bill Clinton in 1994. Biden, in his trilogy of campaign promises, once vowed that his first Supreme Court nominee would be a Black woman.
Let’s hope that Republicans can regain a majority in the Senate so that they can throw a Biden nominee in jeopardy when they take control of the chamber in January when the seat will still be open, as Biden is expected to act quickly so his successor can be ready to serve when the next term begins Oct. 3. Currently, Democrats can confirm Breyer’s successor with a simple majority in the Senate, which is currently split 50-50 between the two parties. Vice President Kamala Harris wields the decisive vote in case of a tie.
Given the current power grab tactics of the Democrats, some have suggested that Breyer may have been pushed to step down quickly in order to allow Biden to nominate his successor while Democrats hold the Senate majority.

According to Rep.
