North Carolina Removes 430,000 Inactive Names from Rolls after Judicial Watch Voter Roll Lawsuit

North Carolina moves a step closer to voter election integrity after the removal of 430,000 ineligible names from its voter rolls. On Feb. 17, 2022, Judicial Watch made the announcement that it settled its lawsuit against North Carolina and two of its counties after they removed over 430,000 ineligible names from the voter rolls. It’s quite appalling that Judicial Watch actually had to file the April 2020 lawsuit (Judicial Watch v. North Carolina and North Carolina State Board of Elections, et al. (No. 3:20-cv- 211)) against the State of North Carolina in the first place! 

According to data going back to June of 2019, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) revealed information showing that “voter registration rates in a significant proportion of North Carolina’s 100 counties were close to, at or above 100% of their age-eligible citizenry – statistics considered by the courts to be a strong indication that a jurisdiction is not taking the steps required by law to remove ineligible registrants.” Judicial Watch’s analysis also showed that at the time of the EAC report the entire State of North Carolina had a registration rate close to 100% of its age-eligible citizenry.
