On August 2 Representative Michael McCaul (R-Texas), lead Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. released a report which highlighted evidence pointing to the Wuhan Chinese lab as the source of the COVID-19 outbreak. This report is actually an addendum to House Republicans previously released report on the Origins of COVID-19, which was released last year.

The new addendum cited several pieces of evidence which supports the conclusion that the virus was leaked from the Wuhan lab, including actions by Chinese officials and scientists who tried to hide or cover up the type of research that was being conducted at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV). The report also noted under-reported information about lax safety protocols at the Wuhan lab.

Citing that the SARS-CoV-2 was accidentally released from WIV sometime prior to September 12, 2019, the updated report states: “The virus, or the viral sequence that was genetically manipulated, was likely collected in a cave in Yunnan Province, PRC, between 2012 and 2015.” And it’s no surprise that the report also implicates American citizens as being “directly engaged in efforts to obfuscate information related to the origins of the virus and to suppress public debate of a possible lab leak!”
