New Charges Filed in St. Paul Church Attack: What You Need to Know

By The Blog Source

The fallout from last month’s disruption at Cities Church in St. Paul continues as the federal government ramps up its legal response. On Friday, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that a new indictment has been unsealed, charging 30 additional individuals in connection with the St. Paul Church attack.

This latest wave of charges brings the total number of people targeted in the investigation to nearly 40. According to Bondi, federal agents have already taken 25 of these new suspects into custody, with more arrests expected as the day progresses.

The Incident at Cities Church

The charges stem from a chaotic January 18 event where activists—protesting the deployment of immigration officers under Operation Metro Surge—entered the church during a worship service.

Prosecutors have described the event as a "coordinated takeover-style attack" rather than a spontaneous protest. The experience was reportedly traumatizing for the congregation, with reports of:

  • Worshippers being blocked and intimidated.

  • Families cornered within the building.

  • Children left in fear for their parents' safety.

High-Profile Arrests and Intent

Among those previously arrested is former CNN anchor Don Lemon, who maintains his innocence. Lemon has stated he was only present at the church to report on the protest.

However, federal investigators allege the disruption was sparked by a case of mistaken identity; activists reportedly believed one of the church’s pastors was actually an official from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

A Firm Stance on Houses of Worship

Attorney General Bondi and the Department of Justice are sending a clear message regarding the targeting of religious institutions. In a recent statement on X, Bondi emphasized:

“YOU CANNOT ATTACK A HOUSE OF WORSHIP. If you do so, you cannot hide from us—we will find you, arrest you, and prosecute you.”

Doug Wardlow, attorney for Cities Church, echoed this sentiment, stating that the First Amendment does not provide a license to "intimidate, threaten, and terrorize families" regardless of a person’s political or professional background.
