At a swearing-in ceremony in the Oval Office on Wednesday, Jeanine Pirro was formally appointed the District of Columbia's interim U.S. attorney. "No more mercy for criminals," said Pirro, who is well-known for her tough-on-crime stance.
Ed Martin, who was recently reassigned from the position, is replaced by Pirro. Earlier this month, President Trump appointed her to the position temporarily. "Violence will be addressed directly with the appropriate punishment, and this city will again become a shining city on a hill," Pirro said, emphasizing the importance of reestablishing law and order in the capital. Pirro left her position as co-host of The Five on Fox News. Until a permanent replacement is announced, her seat will be filled by a rotating group of network personalities.
Jeanine Pirro took the oath of office inside the Oval Office on Wednesday, formally assuming the position of temporary U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia. President Donald Trump attended the event, which was presided over by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi. Following Ed Martin's departure, Pirro was appointed.
After taking her oath, the former Fox News personality made a strong statement, promising to expedite justice in the nation's capital's streets. "Hatred will no longer be tolerated.” Hatred will no longer be tolerated. Criminals will not be spared anymore," she declared. "This city will once again become a shining city on a hill in an America that President Trump has promised to make great again and will make safe again, and violence will be directly addressed with the appropriate punishment."
The recent murders of two Israeli embassy employees in Washington, D.C., were also specifically mentioned by Pirro, who demanded justice and promised to take action against the suspect: "Justice will be brought to the cold-blooded murderer," she declared.
As the first woman to hold a judgeship in Westchester County, New York, Pirro's extensive legal experience includes her tenure as the district attorney and assistant district attorney. She eventually made the switch to the media, joining Fox News in 2006 and hosting Justice with Judge Jeanine for more than ten years before joining The Five as a co-host. Her contributions were commended by a Fox News Media representative, who said, "Jeanine Pirro has been a tremendous addition to The Five and a longstanding valued anchor... We hope she succeeds in her new position in Washington.
After a career spanning journalism, law, and now high-profile federal prosecution, she is leaving Fox News to embark on a new chapter. Pirro is anticipated to be a key player in Trump's heightened emphasis on law-and-order measures in the nation's capital as acting U.S. attorney.
