Member of Sister Sledge; Joni Sledge Dies at age 60

 “We Are Family” Joni Sledge of Sister Sledge passed away in her home at the age of 60 according to the Associated Press.  The cause of death is not yet known; according to sources, she had not been ill.

Sister Sledge group was formed in Philadelphia in 1971.  The group; made up of her sister’s Debbie, Kim and Kathy grapple to produce one hit.  Through their struggle and persistence, it all paid off, creating their biggest hit ever called “We are Family, I Got All My Sisters with Me”

The 1979 catchy disco tune became the anthem for celebrating family and sisterhood.  The song sold over one million copies and was nominated for a Grammy.

A family statement was released stating; “On yesterday, numbness fell upon our family.  “We welcome your prayers as we weep the loss of our sister, mother, aunt, niece and cousin”. 

Sister Sledge still remains a group, performing for the Pope in 2015.  There last performance together was in October.

Joni Sledge is survived by an adult son, her sisters and a host of other relatives.
